A Book By: Emily Dickinson

There is no frigate like a book To take us lands away, Nor any coursers like a page Of prancing poetry. This traverse may the poorest take Without oppress of toll; How frugal is the chariot
That bears a human soul!

Blog Post #1 - Melanie's Book Poem - Tuesday February 8, 2011

Of all the choices I could find, there was only one poem that I could find that was fairly close to how I feel about books. The perfect poem for me, isn't one that I can pull off of the internet. The poems on the internet are other peoples thoughts and feelings on books. The perfect poem for me would be one that I would have to personally create. But.. I'm not going to make one because I am not very good at poetry.

A Book
By: Emily Dickinson
There is no frigate like a book
To take us lands away,
Nor any coursers like a page
Of prancing poetry.
This traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of toll;
How frugal is the chariot
That bears a human soul!

The way this poem connects my feelings.. Is that well a book can take me to another world and time. It shuts off all connections to the real world and I almost become engulfed inside of the characters feeling and actions. At some points, my heart goes out to the character who is having trouble reaching or achieving their goals.
